The imminent entry into force of the mandatory digitalization of the control document has led to a flood of doubts and questions that are gradually being resolved.
We always talk about the benefits of digitizing supply chain processes for shippers, carriers, operators or end customers, but we tend to forget a very important stakeholder: the drivers.
In this post we are going to analyze how the digitalization of the control document affects drivers, taking into account that one of the main criticisms of the sector is the large number of apps they have to use to attend the services of each client.
Before addressing this issue, let us recall how the control document must be digitized in order to be valid.
For years, control document management has been tied to paper, with a constant risk of errors, losses or delays. Thus, the transition to the digital environment does not respond only to a technological evolution, but to a structural need of the sector to gain efficiency, traceability and legal certainty.
To find out what is needed to correctly digitize the control document, we must refer to the regulations that dictate it.
As we explained in the post Compulsory digital control document: what it is and how to digitize it, it is the Sustainable Mobility Law that makes it compulsory to digitize this transport document.
Specifically, it states that the administrative control document required for the performance of public transport of goods by road must necessarily be digital ten months after the entry into force of this law.
It was in December 2025 when the Sustainable Mobility Law was published in the BOE, which makes the digital control document mandatory in October 2026.
However, this regulation does not detail how the control document must be digitized. For this, we must look at the latest amendment to the Regulation of the Land Transport Management Law ( ROTT), which focuses on the characteristics that must be met by those transport documents that are used in electronic format and the Order FOM/2861/2012, which regulates the Control Document.
One of the main claims of the sector regarding the digitization of transport and logistics processes is the number of apps that transport companies and their drivers have to download in order to be able to provide the service.
In other words, the multiplicity of options and the lack of integration are major barriers to the successful implementation of digitization solutions in the sector. Likewise, change management is also a major obstacle.
It is therefore important to find solutions such as FIELDEAS Track and Trace that accompany the entire implementation process and offer tangible benefits to all actors in the chain.
Therefore, it is vital to give visibility to all the benefits that the digitalization of transport documents brings to drivers, so that the application of solutions is no longer perceived as just another administrative task.
In fact, the digitization of the control document, far from being an additional task for drivers, means an improvement in the quality of their work and a simplification of day-to-day processes.
Thus, some of the main benefits for drivers of digitizing the control document, or any other transport document, are:
In many cases, it is the drivers themselves who are in charge of managing the transport documents.
With document digitalization, administrative tasks are drastically reduced, so that the driver no longer has to worry about carrying and managing the different physical documents required for each dispatch.
With the digital control document:
This translates into less stress for drivers and more focus on driving, which is where the driver’s attention should really be.
Documentation is one of the most sensitive points in controls, inspections and unforeseen situations. The digitization of the control document gives the driver a clear advantage: the certainty that the information is correct, up to date and accessible at any time.
This means:
There is a belief that digitizing transport documents involves downloading new applications and learning complex systems.
However, with a tool such as the FIELDEAS Track and Trace Document Digitization module, the opposite is true, as it prioritizes ease of use, integration and flexibility and, in addition, it is not necessary to download an app.
Thus, when technology is designed with the user in mind, the driver wins:
The digitization of the control document should not be understood only as the elimination of paper, but as a cultural change in the sector.
Drivers are the most relevant actors in road freight transport and, therefore, it is important that any digitalization process takes them into account.
When the driver is accompanied throughout the transformation process and is provided with a useful and easy-to-use tool, technology ceases to be an imposition for them and becomes an ally.
Therefore, far from being a burden, the digitization of the control document represents a real opportunity to improve the working conditions of drivers and strengthen the entire transport ecosystem.
In short, the digitalization of the control document, and other transport documents, is a tool to dignify work, optimize processes and build a more modern, human and competitive sector.
The document digitalization module of FIELDEAS Track and Trace, SeamLess eCMR, contributes directly to improving the quality of drivers’ work by eliminating unnecessary friction in their daily work.
By replacing paper-based management with simple and integrated digital processes, drivers gain autonomy, peace of mind and efficiency, reducing time spent on administrative tasks and minimizing errors that traditionally generate incidents, delays and operational stress.
Technology thus becomes an ally that accompanies the professional on the road, instead of adding complexity.
