Destination Dakar 2018

23 Nov 2017

“C’est del Dakar, patron” was the favorite phrase of Thierry Sabine, the inventor of the Paris-Dakar rally, when one of the participants complained about how hard the event was. Yesterday, almost 40 years later, the route of the 2018 Dakar, which will start on January 6 in Lima (Peru), was made public. It will end, after two tough weeks, in Cordoba, Argentina. A total of 9,000 kilometers will be covered, this time through Peru, Bolivia and Argentina.

40th edition

This is already the 40th edition of the rally-raid, which this year returns to Inca lands. Among all the categories of the Dakar, the truck category is always considered one of the most spectacular for the fans of this competition. Palibex, the leading network of express pallet transportation in Spain, will also venture into this new challenge, sponsoring one of the toughest sporting events and participating with a team of trucks: the PBX DAKAR TEAM.

“We wanted to vindicate the figure of the truck and sponsoring a Dakar team completely fit with that idea.” – Jaime Colsa, CEO of Palibex.

They will count on Rafa Tibau, a classic of the Dakar, who returns, after 5 years without competing, to one of the most difficult and popular races at international level. His son, Rafa Tibau Jr, two-time bike trial world champion, and the trainer Pep Sabaté, complete the key parts of the team.

Tibau will drive Palibex’s crown jewel, a Mercedes 4×4 truck with a 1,300 hp Caterpillar engine, completing the fleet with a 6×6 truck driven by Alberto Herrero, four more assistance trucks and a press car.

“To finish a Dakar you need three things. Luck, preparation and mechanics. Without luck you will never be able to finish, but without preparation and mechanics you won’t make it,” says Tibau.

From FIELDEAS, we share the same values and we join the challenge. Let’s go for the Dakar 2018, PBX DAKAR TEAM!
